Sources should be described accurately enough for readers to understand the basis of a claim without compromising legitimate confidentiality. Anonymous sourcing should be used with additional care and should not be presented as stronger evidence than it is.

Editors should link to public primary documents and original materials when practical and should avoid circular sourcing in which multiple outlets ultimately depend on the same unverified claim.
